Accessibility and Padlet
Troubleshooting
- My students can’t access my Padlet. It keeps giving them an error saying “Thou shalt not pass”. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
This happens quite often, and most of the time it’s caused by the Privacy setting you have on this Padlet.
Follow this tutorial to fix it.
F.A.Q.
General
- Do I need to request a Padlet account through South Texas College, or can I use a free one?
You are welcome to use your own Padlet account, but please note that a free account only lets you make 3 Padlets. With a Padlet account through South Texas College, you can make as many Padlets as you like.
- Is Padlet only available for Faculty?
Padlet is available to all faculty, staff and students at South Texas College.
- How can I get a Padlet Account?
- How do I log into my Padlet account?
- How many Padlets can I make with my new STC Padlet account?
As many as you like . There are no limits.
- Does a Padlet account cost me or my students anything?
South Texas College is paying for a site license for Padlet, so there is no cost for you or your students to use it.
Students
- Do my students need to have a Padlet account in order to interact with a Padlet?
Students don’t need to have a Padlet account to interact with Padlet.
- Why would I want my students to have a Padlet account?
Students don’t need to have a padlet account to interact with padlet’s you’ve created, but giving them a Padlet account does give certain benefits.
With a Padlet account you would get:
- Students can create their own Padlets (which could be used for research, presentations, group assignments, etc.)
- If author and timestamp is turned on for a Padlet, and the Padlet is shared in Blackboard through the Padlet Integration Tool student names will appear when they post to your Padlet.
- You can assign padlets to specific students (like for group assignments)
- How can my students get a Padlet account?
- Now that my students have a Padlet account, do they have the ability to create Padlets too?
They sure do! They just need to log in and they can start creating.
- I want to see my students’ names when they post to my Padlet. How do I do this?
This can be done by turning on Author and Timestamp in the Padlet Modification settings.
- I’d like to moderate students responses before they are posted to my Padlet. Can I do this?
You most certainly can, and it’s really easy! Here’s the tutorial.
- How can I prevent students from putting profane words on my Padlet?
Padlet has a built-in feature that looks for these automatically. Whenever Padlet discovers a bad word, it’ll set that post to moderation. The post will only appear on Padlet if you approve it.
Distance Learning
- Can I use Padlet in Blackboard?
Padlet now has an integrated tool in Blackboard! See this tutorial on how to set up Padlets on you Blackboard course. The bonus to this, is if students click on your padlet with this integration, student account creation and attribution is automatic!
- Can Padlet export grades to Blackboard?
Padlet doesn’t have an option for grading at this time, and does not have a feature where a grade can be exported to Blackboard. If you would like to get a grade for a Padlet for your students, this would need to be done manually in the Blackboard Gradebook.
